city of santa ana website design

The City of Santa Ana website first launched in 1999 and has grown to consist of approximately 700 pages and 4,000 supporting assets. In 2018, the City sought a comprehensive website redesign and implementation of a Drupal-based content management system that would make it easy for content contributors to add, delete and revise content as needed.

Additionally, there were some departments that the City believed should be garnering more traffic, including the library, police and City Council.

360Civic provided a new-look design and improved navigation to help the City’s residents and other visitors quickly find the information they need. The new site also adjusts more efficiently to accommodate mobile phone and handheld device users.

Other key components of the project include an open government portal for public data, language translation, GIS mapping, calendaring, centralized image and photo libraries, an RSS feed for news items, and compliance with all ADA requirements.

Since the site launched in November of 2018, all of the statistics by which successful websites are measured are trending in a positive direction:

  •     Total sessions have increased 21%
  •     Time spent on the site by visitors is up 47%
  •     The number of users has increased nearly 12%
  •     The number of new users has increased by 14%
  •     The number of pages visited on the site is up 79%
  •     The bounce rate has dropped 40%

Since then, the results have continued to improve. Our most recent analysis found that:

  • Traffic is up 121%
  • Search engine traffic is up 143%
  • Bounce rate is down 22 points
  • Page views are up 111%
  • Mobile traffic is up 200%

Plus, the departments where Santa Ana specifically hoped to generate more traffic are now outperforming the rest of the website:

  • Police +187%
  • Library +274%
  • City Council +345%
  • PB +256%
  • Planning and Building +247%
  • Social +361%
